Abstract

This comparative clinical trial aimed to analyze the postoperative impact of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and bone bioactive liquid (BBL) on wound and bone healing after surgical extraction of third molars. 60 patients aged between 18 and 55 years, including 35 females and 25 males, who qualified for the inclusion criteria were included. Participants had been assigned to one of three groups: Group A control, Group B (PRF), and Group C  (BBL). Evaluation was done at the end of 7 days for suture removal and healing assessment based on the Landry et al. healing score based on the color of the tissue, granulation tissue, bleeding on palpation, crepitations on incision margins, and pus discharge. While 40% of cases in the PRF group were classified as very good, only 15% of cases from the control group were classified as so, with 5% classified as poor in the PRF cohort and 25% classified as poor in the control group. Of the group, BBL attained an overall well-distributed 40% excellent healing score with fewer poor outcomes (5%) versus the control (10%). The assigned intervention groups did not demonstrate significant differences in healing outcomes relative to controls, although clinical improvements were observed with this intervention. In summary, PRF and BBL showed statistically ( by Fisher’s exact test p-value < 0.05) equivalent or superior outcomes in most measures relative to conventional healing despite favorable clinical trends observed (PRF reduction of poor healing outcomes and BBL increased proportion of excellent healing scores).
